What does it take to be an at home transcriptionist?

Skills:

  1. You must be proficient in MS Word.
  2. You must be proficient in Windows and Internet based applications.
  3. You must be able to type 65 words per minute or better.
  4. Completion of medical terminology courses required.
  5. Experience is necessary with at least five years of clinic or hospital transcription work history.
  6. You must be highly motivated, well organized, and disciplined.
  7. AAMT certification a plus.

Equipment:

  1. A Pentium/AMD 900 MHz computer with 256 MB of memory (RAM) - minimum. Pentium/AMD 1.0 GHz or higher with 512 MB of memory or higher is preferred.
  2. Windows 2000, XP (home or Pro) or Vista operating system or Novell Linux/ Apple Mac.
  3. Internet connection required. (Cable, DSL or Satellite high speed ISP)
  4. PC based audio player and foot pedal required.

Software:

  1. MS Word 2000 or newer with Medical Spellchecker.
  2. Medical Spell Checker should be current version of Stedman's or Sylvan.

Experience:

  1. Experience is a must. Three to five years of clinic or hospital transcription work history. We would be soon affiliated with various community colleges to work directly with the curriculum to develop the skills necessary. Upon completion of approved courses, internships and employment is offered to top candidates.

Compensation:

  1. Paid on a per line basis.
  2. Referral Fee is paid for finding new clients.
